The Gloaming is a short story which explores the potency of memory, dreams and the subconscious. 

Drawing influence from gothic fiction in which psychological elements mingle with the supernatural, the story follows a visitor to an old country estate and the events which unfold during her stay. The grounds of the house reflect the theme of blurring reality and imagination in that they are a designed and structured semblance of reality in miniature, tangible and yet not quite real. The overgrown

gardens and crumbling interiors become metaphors for the psyche of the reclusive owner. 

The setting is based loosely on the grounds of Pollok House in Glasgow.
